Pain Management

Dr. Walker assists his patients in pain diagnosis, treatment and management. He offers comprehensive and comfortable non-surgical managed care for back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, work-related injuries and auto-related injuries.

Epidural Spinal Injection (ESI)
Our Neurosurgeons perform epidural steroid injections (ESI). ESI is a minimally invasive procedure that can help relieve neck, arm, back and leg pain caused by inflamed spinal nerves. ESI may be performed to relieve pain caused by spinal stenosis, spondylolysis, or disc herniation. They are an integral part of the non-surgical management of sciatica and low back pain. The goal of the injection is pain relief, and at times the injection is sufficient to provide relief. Many times an epidural steroid injection is used in combination with a comprehensive rehabilitation program to provide additional benefit.

Nerve Conduction Velocity / Electromyography (EMG)
His practice performs Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) tests. NCV is a medical diagnostic test commonly used to evaluate the function, especially the ability of electrical conduction, of the motor and sensory nerves of the human body. NCV measures nerve and muscle function, and may be indicated when there is pain in the limbs, weakness from spinal nerve compression, or concern about other neurologic injury or disorder. Some of the common disorders that can be diagnosed by a NCV:

• Carpel Tunnel Syndrome
• Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
• Guillain-Barre Syndrome
• Guyon’s Canal Syndrome
• Peripheral Neuropathy
• Peroneal Neuropathy
• Spinal Disc Herniation
• Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
• Ulnar Neuropathy
